Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 17, 2026 · Effective date: June 17, 2026

The short version: SpeakIt turns text into speech directly on your iPhone. You don't need an account, and the text you read aloud is not uploaded to us. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.

1. Who we are & scope

This Privacy Policy explains how the SpeakIt mobile application ("SpeakIt", the "App", "we", "us") handles information. SpeakIt is developed and operated by Nguyen Tien Duoc. This policy applies to the SpeakIt iOS app and this website. It does not apply to third-party services or websites that SpeakIt may link to or that you choose to open.

2. Information we handle

SpeakIt is built to work without an account and to keep your content on your device. We have designed the App to handle as little information as possible:

  • The text you read aloud: the words you type, paste, scan, import, or generate are processed on your device to produce speech. This text is not transmitted to us and we do not store it on our servers.
  • Your saved library: phrases, folders, favorites, recents, and settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage. We cannot see them.
  • A push notification token (optional): if you allow notifications, a device-specific push token is generated and handled through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging so we can deliver notifications. This token is a technical identifier and is not linked to your identity. You can decline or turn off notifications at any time in iOS Settings.
  • Basic, non-identifying configuration data: the App may retrieve remote configuration values (for example, to adjust app behavior) using Firebase Remote Config. This does not require or collect personal information.

We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email, contacts, precise location, or browsing history through the App. We do not use the App to track you across other companies' apps and websites, and we do not show advertising.

3. On-device processing

The core features of SpeakIt run locally on your iPhone:

  • Text-to-speech is produced by Apple's on-device speech engine.
  • Scanning text from the camera or photos (OCR) is performed on-device using Apple's text-recognition technology.
  • AI text generation uses Apple Intelligence (on-device foundation models) on supported devices and works offline. Your prompts are processed on the device and are not sent to us. Apple may collect limited, anonymized information about how its on-device intelligence features are used in order to improve them; you can manage Apple Intelligence in iOS Settings, and this is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Some optional features involve a network connection that you initiate:

  • Web link reading: when you paste a web link to extract its article text, the App uses Apple's WebKit framework to load and parse that page. Because the request is made from your device, the website's server will receive standard request information — including your IP address and a browser User-Agent identifier — just as any web browser would send. That request goes to the website you chose and is subject to that site's own privacy practices, so review the policies of pages you ask SpeakIt to read.
  • Voice input (dictation): SpeakIt uses Apple's speech-recognition framework to convert your speech to text. Depending on the language and your device, recognition may run entirely on your device or be processed by Apple's servers — for example, English can be recognized on-device, while several other languages require a network connection so Apple can perform the recognition. This processing is handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. This feature requires the Speech Recognition permission, and the microphone is used only while you are actively dictating.

4. Device permissions

SpeakIt asks for certain iOS permissions only when you use the related feature, and only for that purpose:

  • Camera — to scan printed text into the app. Images are processed for text recognition and are not uploaded to us.
  • Photo Library — to let you pick an image to extract text from. We access only the photos you choose.
  • Microphone — to capture your voice for dictation.
  • Speech Recognition — to convert dictated audio into text (see Section 3).
  • Notifications — to send you optional push notifications.

You can review or change any of these permissions at any time in iOS Settings. Declining a permission simply disables the related feature.

5. Third-party services

SpeakIt relies on a small number of trusted platform services:

  • Apple — text-to-speech, on-device text recognition, speech recognition, Apple Intelligence, the App Store, and (if you use it) iCloud Drive for backups. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Firebase — Cloud Messaging (push notifications) and Remote Config. See the Firebase Privacy and Security information and Google's Privacy Policy.

To deliver push notifications and remote configuration, these services may process standard technical data — such as a push token, device and app version information, IP address, and basic diagnostics — as described in Google's documentation. SpeakIt does not integrate Firebase Analytics, and we do not use this data to track you across other apps or websites or to build an advertising profile. We never share the text you read with these providers.

6. Purchases

SpeakIt offers an optional one-time in-app purchase, "SpeakIt Pro." All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details. Apple provides us with anonymized, aggregated sales information so we can confirm and restore purchases. Your entitlement is verified on your device through Apple's StoreKit.

7. Push notifications

If you opt in, we may send push notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging — for example, helpful tips or product updates. To deliver them, a device push token is used as described in Section 2. You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → SpeakIt.

8. Children's privacy

SpeakIt is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). The App has no account system and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you choose to let a child use SpeakIt, you do so under your supervision and as the responsible adult accepting these terms on their behalf. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

9. Your rights

Because SpeakIt does not maintain accounts or store your content on our servers, most of your information lives only on your device and is fully under your control — you can edit or delete your saved phrases, folders, and recents inside the app at any time, or remove all of it by deleting the app.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. These mandatory data-protection laws of your country of residence apply to you regardless of where we operate.

To exercise any of these rights, email hightleveldeveloper@gmail.com with "Data Request" in the subject line and tell us what you would like to do (access, correct, delete, or opt out). We will respond within 30 days and may need to verify your identity first. Because we do not keep your content on our servers, most of your information already lives only on your device and is under your direct control.

10. Retention & security

Content you create stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. The push token used for notifications is retained only while notifications are enabled. Remote configuration values are simply fetched and cached on your device and are not personal to you. As noted above, SpeakIt does not integrate Firebase Analytics, so we do not accumulate usage analytics about you. We rely on Apple's and Google's industry-standard security measures for the platform services we use. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using reasonable safeguards.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of SpeakIt after an update means you accept the revised policy.
